Selected for Songwriting Contest |
| For the third consecutive year, Minnesota-based performing songwriter Wayne Hamilton has been selected as a finalist in the Minnesota Folk Festival’s New Folk Songwriting Contest. Contest officials have selected 30 finalists to compete for a cash prize and a featured-performer spot on the festival’s 2002 stage. This year’s festival will be held in Mound’s Park in St. Paul, Minn. on September 15 and 16, 2001. Hamilton is scheduled to perform two songs at 12:30 PM on Sunday, September 16. The festival’s URL is www.minnesotafolkfestival.org. Hamilton, who has been writing songs since the late 1960s, began performing them in the Twin Cities in 1998. He has played in more than 75 Minnesota venues and has toured to Virginia, Maryland and Wisconsin to perform. He is scheduled to tour to Dallas, Texas in October and Atlanta, Georgia in November. His Internet URL is www.waynehamilton.com. Hamilton released a CD titled Lucky That Way in 2000, which contains twelve of his original songs, each of which received endorsement recognition from the Minnesota Association of Songwriters. His recording label, Acoustic Vision Productions, produced Homecoming Hootenanny, also released in 2000, on which he appears in a concert with several other performers. In addition to his recording, songwriting and performing activities, Hamilton is the founder and coordinator for the Twin Cities chapter of Just Plain Folks. This organization, numbering 11,000 members worldwide, provides free networking opportunities for independent musicians. The Twin Cities chapter won the organization’s Founders Award for Best Chapter in 2000; at that time Hamilton was named Best Chapter Coordinator. On the last Tuesday of each month, Hamilton hosts a two-hour, song-circle networking meeting for local members. In addition, on the second Monday of each month, he emcees a showcase of musician members, which is free and open to the public. Details about these events and the local chapter of Just Plain Folks can be found at www.acoustic-vision.net. The URL for the international organization is www.jpfolks.com. |
